Term 3
WORLD OF WORK WEEK (WOW WEEK)
We had a fantastic week learning about a wide range of careers and occupations and developing our knowledge about the skills required for work and life. We were so fortunate to be visited by a range of people including: a Primary teacher, nursery officer, Fitness instructor, Active Schools Coordinator, The Recruit winner, Development Officer from the Council, Derek McKay MSP and Apprentices from Rolls Royce. It gave us a great insight into these peoples' jobs and we had the opportunity to ask lots of questions.
The week concluded with a fantastic event called "Work Cluedo". This involved being detectives and interviewing 11 different guests to try and guess their occupation. We were joined by some of the P7s at St James Primary. It was a very busy afternoon completing a range of tasks about jobs as well as playing cluedo. Many thanks to all our guests for making the event and whole week such a success.
FRENCH CAFE
To conclude our topic on French Food our class were treated to a French cafe experience by Mrs O'Brien. We took on the roles of waiter/waitress and customer and engaged in quality conversations using our French vocabulary. We tried hard to use a French accent and asked a range of questions. We served each other and then got to enjoy a selection of tasty foods. We had great fun and it helped us to apply our new vocabulary.
TERM 2
Primary 7 had a very busy month in December in the run up to Christmas. We worked hard to learn and perform our Christmas song "This Christmas Time" and sang it beautifully at our Christmas Concert. We were fortunate to be invited to Renfrew High School's Christmas Pantomine "The Grinch Games" which was very entertaining. Oh yes it was!!! It was also great to see many of our former pupils on stage.
CONSTRUCTION SKILLS CHALLENGE 2
We really enjoyed another visit from Construction Skills who carried out a Lego Tower challenge with our class. We had to form a company and design, plan and build a tower that would make the most profit. We had interpret graphs and calcualte profit, developing our numeracy skills. Before building, we had to complete and submit a tender detailing how tall our tower was going to be; the time it would take to build; the number of bricks we would use and our expected profit. We then enjoyed competing against each other's companies to see who made the most profit and won the challenge. It was a fantastic afternoon.
NUMERACY ACROSS THE CURRICULUM
In December we were learning about the different types of triangles and their properties. We completed a range of activities in class and on the smartboard to secure our understanding. We learned how to accurately draw isoceles triangles and equilateral triangles using rulers and protractors. We then applied our learning to create snowflake designs using a range of triangles and other shapes. Here are some of our designs:
